“I’ve been bringing my miniature Dachshund here twice a week since he was a teeny tine puppy and he LOVES it. When we pull up in the morning he cannot get to the front door fast enough, so it’s obvious the staff at Metro Dogs have curated a happy environment for him to play with his friends. I’ve always felt confident leaving him in their hands and will continue to recommend them to other dog owners.” – Erin M.
The Metro Dogs Difference
Metro Dogs is more than just a traditional dog daycare center; it’s a second home for your dog. Located in the bustling heart of the city, it provides a safe, clean, and engaging environment where your dog can play, learn, and rest. Here’s why Metro Dogs stands out from the rest and why it’s the ultimate destination for your canine companion.
a) Positive Reinforcement: A Kinder Approach
Metro Dogs is committed to positive reinforcement as their primary practice. This means every interaction is designed to build your dog’s confidence and happiness. Rewards and praise are used to encourage good behavior, creating a loving and supportive environment that dogs thrive in. Positive reinforcement is not just effective; it’s also kind, ensuring that your dog feels safe and loved at all times.
b) Five Separate Playrooms: Tailored Experiences for Every Dog
One size does not fit all when it comes to dog daycare, and Metro Dogs understands this better than anyone. With five separate playrooms ranging from Tiny Town to Bigs, every dog can find their perfect spot.
c) Customizable Playrooms: Beyond Size
Playrooms at Metro Dogs are separated by size, play-style, personality, and more. Does your dog prefer a gentle romp or high-energy play? Is your dog social but a bit shy? Metro Dogs takes all of this into account to create the most comfortable and engaging environment for your furry friend. Playgroups are thoughtfully curated so every dog can enjoy their day in a way that suits them best.
d) Outdoor K9 Turf Play Yard: The Perfect Outdoor Playground
This specially designed area provides a safe and fun space for dogs to enjoy fresh air and exercise. Artificial turf is easier on paws and joints, making it perfect for playtime. It’s also more sanitary, ensuring that your dog can enjoy a clean and safe play environment.
e) Integrated Training: Learning Through Play
At Metro Dogs, training is seamlessly integrated into daycare activities. Dogs are taught commands such as touch, sit, spin, and more. This approach makes learning fun and natural for the dogs, reinforcing good behavior and manners in a positive environment. Training during daycare means your dog not only has a great time but also comes home a better-behaved companion.
f) One-on-One Attention: Personalized Care
Every dog is unique, and Metro Dogs celebrates this by providing one-on-one attention and care for each pet. Staff members get to know each dog individually, understanding their quirks, preferences, and needs. This personal touch ensures that every dog feels special and well-cared-for, giving you peace of mind that your furry friend is in the best hands.
g) Professional Care: Trust & Peace of Mind
Leaving your dog in someone else’s care can be daunting, but at Metro Dogs, you can relax knowing that true professionals are looking after your pet. The staff is trained, experienced, and passionate about dogs, providing top-notch care at every turn.
Requirements & Evaluation Day
Metro Dogs Daycare is a social, group environment where the dogs hang out and play together all day. Our evaluation process is one of the most important aspects of the Metro Dogs Daycare program. It’s designed to identify potential troublemakers—overly aggressive or defensive dogs. Neither of which makes for a fun, safe place for your dog to be. In order to keep things well & orderly, certain rules apply. All dogs must meet the following:
a) Behavior & Temperament
- Pass a temperament evaluation (New Client Evaluation Days are by appointment only).
- Comfortably engage with dogs of all kinds.
- Be safely handled by all staff members.
- Share toys with other dogs or staff without possessive aggression.
- Accept treats without possessive aggression towards dogs or staff.
- Displays of behavior relating to stress (incessant barking, excessive mounting, not taking treats, reactivity, fear) are NOT allowed with your dog’s best interest in mind.
- Displays of negative behaviors relating to being intact (mounting, intersex reactivity, excessive marking, obsession with another dog) are NOT allowed and the dog may be asked to take a break until sterilized.
b) Health & Wellness
- Free of parasites.
- Flea & Tick Prevention (veterinarian approved during months with temps above 32F).
- Sterilization done by 12 months of age (No females in heat at any age).
- If recently adopted from an animal shelter or rescue: must be home for 6 weeks to be clear of any communicable diseases. This rule is due to the Canine Influenza outbreak at Animal Humane Societies (read more information here).
c) Vaccine & Health Exceptions
- A titer test may replace the DHPP vaccine (talk to your vet for more information).
- Sterilization may be extended past 12 months if recommended by your vet &/or your dog is not displaying any concerning behaviors driven by being intact.
